Acknowledgments

Giving USA began 54 years ago. As you read these pages, please thank the many donors now and from the past who have made Giving USA possible.

As editor, I’d also like to thank researchers who developed the estimating procedures and the many whose findings are included in this year’s edition.

In addition, with deep appreciation, thanks go to Del Martin, chair of Giving USA Foundation™, and Nancy Raybin, chair of Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits; James Yunker, chair of the Giving USA Editorial Review Board and of the Giving USA Advisory Council on Methodology; Edith Falk and Leo Arnoult, co-chairs of the Giving USA resource development committee; and Leslie Biggins Mollsen, chair of the photo contest committee. Members of the boards and committees are named beginning on page 233. These many very busy people volunteer hours of time and years of experience to ensure Giving USA’s continuation as the yearbook of philanthropy. Members of Giving Institute offer counsel and ask questions that influence what appears in Giving USA. One recent addition, showing giving graphed with the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, arose because of inquiries from David King of Alexander Haas.

At the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, with gratitude, I thank Patrick M. Rooney, Ph.D., newly appointed as executive director, and Una O. Osili, Ph.D., interim director of research, plus every member of the research department and many other Center colleagues, some of whom pitched in with very little advance notice. Doctoral or master’s degree candidates in philanthropy programs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis wrote many of the chapters, and I am grateful for their fresh perspectives. They are credited in full on page 238.

The physical production of the book relies on the talents of Rich Metter of Rich Metter Graphics (New York City), J. Heidi Newman of Mark My Word! (Indianapolis), Miriam Lezak (Acton, MA), and the printing team at IPC, St. Joseph, MI. Their professionalism and focus make it possible for readers to see and hold a completed text.

My family, as ever, deserves the highest praise for their many (unsung and often
unknown) contributions to this work. To my husband, children, and this year,
my mother who visited in May and took on duties that I would normally do,
I can only say, thank you.
